ceramics

I have been working with clay for about three years now, forever grateful that curiosity took over.
in the studio, I tend to gravitate towards two ways of making. either very sculptural organic shapes and colors or something very animated and playful with robust color. most of my work is non-functional. however, I do enjoy creating vessels such as vases and have lately been distorting them or fine tuning them to mold a more organic feel. my latest makings have also been to try and incorporate other textural pieces to try and elicit interaction.

textiles

growing up, my Iife has been filled richly with various ornate textile works filling the spaces around me. from prayer rugs to crocheted lilies adorning every surface deemed possible. my grandma also was a seamstress and would make various sets for me and my cousins.
however, I had not started dabbling with fabric until a few years ago. I was limited into what I thought textiles could be. I started playing with rearranging forms from old or found fabric. creating soft sculptures is now one of my favorite ways to make and has me feeling more connected to my roots. I particularly like hand sewing and intertwining it with other mediums, but will from time to time dabble with the machine.

paintings

paintings are a newer form of media I have tackled within the past year. while still trying to discover my movements and tastes, I have come to savor the way in which brush and paint have pushed me in new ways.

I primarily work in acrylic, however, I tend to also use tempera,
gouache, watercolor, and oil pastels. most of my painted work resembles my way of layering in digital work, thinking about how one pieces relates to another to create the whole. most of my earlier paintings were more free form, however, I have started to use my drawings as reference. going forward, I want to work larger and to try and emulate digital onto the physical.

misc.

collection ranges from and is not limited to: drawings, collages, prints, and alternative forms of photography.

I first started experimenting with mixed media doing collage and have now expanded what that term means for me by adding in thread, ephemera and various other tactile pieces. most works of mine start from or take ideas from my drawings and continue their journey from there.
